How A Woman’s Body Changes Beautifully During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is one of the most exceptional phases of a woman’s life, due to a plethora of physical and psychological changes in her body. While there is always confusion, fear and anxiety that accompanies a woman every day for nine months, the amount of happiness, bliss, and excitement make it all totally worth it. Let’s have a look at the physiological and emotional changes in a woman’s body, month by month:

First month:

Generally, women do not feel much of physical symptoms during the first month of pregnancy. Breasts become tender and enlarged and some women might feel excessively sleepy.

Second month:

There are nausea, vomiting, and a feeling of extreme tiredness. Some women might gain weight around hips. The level of the hormones oestrogen and progesterone increase to four times the normal and women experience mood swings.

Third month:

The heart works harder and there might be feeling of tiredness while the morning sickness continues. The higher blood pumping in the body can also lead to congestion and runny nose.

Fourth month:

Women normally feel better during the fourth month. Nausea usually stops and there’s lesser fatigue. There could be a slight pain in the abdomen to accommodate the forming baby. The body also needs more iron by this time so dietary changes should be made.

Fifth month:

The baby can be felt moving by this time and extra rest is required so as to avoid the formation of varicose veins. There is a yellowish fluid called colostrum that starts leaking from the breasts in preparation for breastfeeding. Visits to the bathroom become more frequent.

Sixth month:

The areola grows in size and gets darker in colour. Weight gain of 3-4 pounds is observed and feet might swell. Baby’s movements begin to be felt. There could also be instances of heartburn so eating healthy is necessary.

Seventh month:

There could be a backache, sleeplessness and tiredness. More weight gain is observed. As the baby grows in size, the liver, lungs and digestive tract are pushed upwards which may lead to indigestion and constipation.

Eighth month:

Severe back pain is experienced accompanied by more weight gain. Frequent urination, insomnia and body pains develop along with shortness of breath. Light exercise may help alleviate the pains.

Ninth month:

The belly grows big, followed by feelings of contractions. Breast leaking starts and since body organs are cramped to accommodate the fully grown baby, there’s enormous discomfort felt.

Emotional changes:

First trimester

There’s a fluctuation of joy and fear. Extreme fatigue and morning sickness do not make it the best trimester of pregnancy. Anxiousness may tick in very frequently due to the sudden change in life, physically and emotionally, triggered by a huge influx of various hormones.

Second trimester

Since the body and mind adapt to pregnancy by now, the feeling usually gets better. Forgetfulness becomes common and a woman might become more disorganised. A lot of emotions are felt due to baby’s movement inside.

Third trimester

Anxiousness about childbirth ticks in. The forgetfulness can persist and some women experience the urge to cry without any reason or feel depressed, all because of the various hormones at work.

There’s a lot more going on in a woman’s mind and body every moment during pregnancy, with each experience being unique to each woman. Nevertheless, it remains to be the most satisfying and beautiful phase of a woman’s life, and we can’t thank nature enough for it.
