There was much debate about the Election Committee of India’s efficiency and the fact that it was extending certain leverage to the BJP by not announcing the polls in Gujarat. However the Election Commission of India has put a full stop to the controversy by finally announcing the dates for the Legislative Assembly Elections in Gujarat.
TWO PHASE POLLS IN GUJARAT
Chief Election Commissioner AK JOTI announced the schedule for Gujarat Assembly elections on Tuesday. The elections in state would be held in two phases. In Phase One which will be held on December 9 the number of seats to be voted for will be 89 while in the second phase to be held on 14th December the number of seats being contested for will be 93. Gujarat Legislative Assembly has 182 seats in all. The counting of votes will be done on 18th December under the supervision of Election Commission of India.
4.33 crores is the total strength of voters in Gujarat.
VVPATS ATTACHED TO EVERY EVM
The Election Commission of India also stated that 50128 polling stations would be set up across the state and the polls will be fully equipped with VVPATs (Voter Verified Paper Audit Trial) All the EVMs will be attached with VVPATs as clarified by the Election Commission of India. The model code of conduct will be applicable to the Union Government Also.
The opposition has been vehemently accusing the Election Commission of India for playing into the hands of the government and hence delaying the announcement of poll dates in Gujarat.
